PAUL WHITAKER

Paul is a Latino and Cherokee lighting designer whose work spans production lighting for theatre, opera, and dance; architectural lighting; and theatre planning.

His Off-Broadway credits include the Public Theater, Playwrights Horizons, Second Stage, The Atlantic, and Ma-Yi Theater Company, among others. Regional credits include The Guthrie, the Denver Center, Children’s Theatre Company, The Alley, South Coast Repertory, Yale Repertory Theatre, Center Stage Baltimore, Minnesota Opera, and San Diego Opera, among others. In 2025 Paul received a Drama Desk Nomination for Sumo at the public theatre.

Beyond the stage, Paul is a Partner at Schuler Shook, a leading firm specializing in architectural lighting design, theatre planning, and A/V design.  Among his favorite projects for Schuler Shook include the renovations of the James Earl Jones Theatre (New York, NY), the Todd Haimes Theatre(New York, NY),  Cincinnati Music Hall (Cinncinnati, OH), Macalester College Theatre (St. Paul, MN), the Lakewood Cemetery Welcome Center (Minneapolis, MN), and the Harry S. He has taught Theatrical Design at Amherst College and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
